Karnataka Man Marries & Cons 15 Women Posing as Doctor, Engineer

Bengaluru: A fraudster was arrested in Karnataka’s Mysuru district for marrying and cheating 15 women posing as doctor or engineer. He was targeting middle-aged women to escape with cash, jewelry, and proof of his multiple fraudulent identities.

The arrested conman was 35-year-old Mahesh from the Banashankari area in Bengaluru.

Initial investigation by police has proved that he had married at least 15 women. Incriminating evidence, Rs 2 lakh cash, two cars, a gold bracelet, a ring, two gold bangles, a necklace, and seven mobile phones were seized from his possession.

Mahesh used to pose as a doctor, engineer, or civil contractor, to lure his victims to marry him. After marriage, he used to abscond with the cash and valuable jewelry of the women.

He was also using matrimonial sites to trap women.

He could be arrested only after one of his victims, Hemalatha, registered a complaint against him at Kuvempunagar police station. Hemalatha encountered Mahesh him on the online platform Shaadi.com, where he had claimed to be a doctor.

After their wedding in Visakhapatnam on January 1, 2023, Mahesh absconded with a substantial amount of cash and Hemalatha’s jewellery.

Police investigation led to the discovery of 14 more fraudulent marriages of Mahesh.
