Manipur’s Oldest Militant Group UNLF Abandons Arms, Signs ‘Historic’ Peace Pact With Govt

Imphal: In a significant development, the United National Liberation Front (UNLF), an extremist group entrenched in Manipur, inked a historic peace agreement with the Indian government on Wednesday, pledging to abandon violence. Union Home Minister Amit Shah hailed the event as a momentous milestone, emphasizing the Modi government’s unwavering commitment to fostering lasting peace in the Northeast.

The UNLF, recognized as the oldest armed group in Manipur’s Imphal valley, has now committed to forgo its militant activities and embrace mainstream participation. Minister Shah, in a social media post, expressed his enthusiasm for this achievement, extending a warm welcome to the UNLF into democratic processes and wishing them success on their journey towards peace and progress.

This peace accord, marking the culmination of a six-decade-long armed movement, is a testament to the government’s dedication to realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of inclusive development.
