In an unfortunate incident, about 90 passengers aboard the Chennai-Palitana special train, ‘Bharat Gaurav,’ suffered food poisoning on Tuesday, according to railway officials. The train, chartered for a religious gathering in Palitana, Gujarat, experienced the incident between Solapur and Pune, with passengers complaining of nausea, loose motions, and headaches.
Prompt medical attention was provided at Pune railway station, where a team of doctors treated the affected passengers and administered necessary treatment. After a 50-minute delay for medical assistance, the train was able to resume its journey.
It was clarified by Central Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Dr. Shivraj Manaspure, that the private group organizing the religious event had independently arranged the food, which was not sourced from the Railways or the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). The food causing the illness had been prepared in the train’s pantry car.
Despite the incident, all affected passengers were reported to be in stable condition upon departure from Pune station. The incident highlights the importance of food safety and quality, especially in privately arranged events on trains.
