Man Chokes to Death During ‘Gulgula’ Eating Challenge in Mayurbhanj Dist

Baripada: Eating for fun turned fatal for a man in Mayurbhanj district.  The victim identified as Shirish Chandra Mahanayak (42) of Dantiamunha village reportedly choked to death during a gulgula (Odia version of fried doughnuts) eating challenge in the Morada block of the district on Sunday.

As per reports, during the weekly haat on Sunday, Shirish met some friends at a roadside restaurant. While eating their snacks, they came up with an eating challenge.

To win the bet, Shirish tried to swallow four gulgulas and a malpua all at once. But he choked while swallowing this large amount of stuff in his mouth.

As he started to suffocate, locals rushed him to the district headquarters hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.  on arrival.

Police have registered a case of unnatural death and have started an investigation.
