Netizens Flag Google Gemini’s Bias Towards PM Modi, IT Minister Calls it Violation of Rules

New Delhi: Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar has raised concerns regarding Google’s AI tool, Gemini, concerning its responses to questions about Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Chandrasekhar highlighted alleged bias showcased by Gemini, drawing attention to its response to queries about PM Modi compared to those about other political figures like Trump and Zelenskyy.

Chandrasekhar pointed out that Gemini’s response, as highlighted by verified accounts of journalists, potentially breaches Rule 3(1)(b) of the Intermediary Rules under the IT Act, along with several provisions of the criminal code. He underscored that the disparity in responses constitutes a direct violation and necessitates further action.

The issue came to light when a journalist shared a screenshot illustrating the contrast in Gemini’s responses. While the AI tool offered unfavourable comments about PM Modi, it remained more cautious and neutral when responding to similar inquiries about Trump and Zelenskyy.

Chandrasekhar has formally brought this matter to the attention of Google and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, indicating the likelihood of subsequent actions.
