Hung Assembly Looms as Exit Polls Indicate Close Contest in Mizoram

Aizawl: Mizoram’s political landscape is set for a dramatic shift as exit polls predict a close race between the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) and the emerging Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM).

Jan Ki Baat exit polls suggest that ZPM could secure between 15 and 25 seats in the 40-member assembly, while MNF is projected to win 10 to 14 seats. India TV-CNX exit polls further corroborate this trend, indicating a potential hung assembly with no clear majority.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the final outcome, Chief Minister Zoramthanga remains optimistic about MNF’s chances of retaining power. He has dismissed the possibility of a political deadlock and expressed confidence in his party’s ability to form the next government.

The high voter turnout, with over 80% participation among the 8.57 lakh voters, underscores the significance of this election for the people of Mizoram. With Christians constituting over 87% of the population, the state eagerly awaits the official election results to determine its political future.
