Garry’s Got 500! Nathan Lyon Spins His Way into Test Cricket’s Elite List

Perth: Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon achieved a historic milestone on Sunday, securing his 500th Test wicket during the first Test against Pakistan in Perth. Lyon, 36, joined an elite group of seven cricketers to achieve this feat, with Shane Warne (708) and Glenn McGrath (563) being the other Australians. Lyon’s longevity is attributed in part to his exclusion from international white-ball cricket since 2019.

The veteran off-spinner, playing in his 123rd match, utilized the Decision Review System (DRS) to claim the 500th wicket by dismissing Faheem Ashraf lbw. The scenes in the stadium were electrifying as Lyon’s teammates celebrated the remarkable achievement. He followed it up by dismissing Aamer Jamal in the same over for his 501st wicket.
