Sri Lanka Climb WTC Rankings After Commanding Victory Over B’desh; India Remain On Top

Sri Lanka climbed up the World Test Championship rankings after clinching a commanding 328-run victory over Bangladesh in the first Test at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. This win, in Sri Lanka’s inaugural Test at the venue, secured them an unassailable 1-0 lead in the series.

The triumph marked Sri Lanka’s eighth away Test win against Bangladesh, maintaining their unbeaten record in Test matches against the hosts. Prior to this match, Sri Lanka languished at the bottom of the WTC standings with zero points, while Bangladesh occupied the fourth spot with 12 points and a 50% points percentage from two games.

With this victory, Sri Lanka earned 12 points from three matches, boosting their points percentage to 33.33%. This propelled them past South Africa and England, tying them with Bangladesh in sixth place. Notably, the West Indies climbed to fifth place with 16 points, matching Sri Lanka and Bangladesh’s points percentage but with a superior points tally.

In the match, Mominul Haque’s resilient batting stood out as he fought bravely against Sri Lanka’s formidable bowling attack. Despite his efforts, Bangladesh fell short, managing only 182 runs in their second innings, leading to a comprehensive defeat by 328 runs.
