Elon Musk Makes Surprise Visit to China, A Week After Postponing India Trip

New Delhi: Tesla CEO Elon Musk made a surprise visit to China on Sunday, according to reports. This unannounced trip comes just a week after Musk postponed his visit to India citing ‘Tesla obligations’. He was scheduled to meet with PM Modi and announce plans to enter the Indian market.

China is Tesla’s second-largest market, and Musk’s visit reportedly focuses on discussions regarding the rollout of Tesla’s Full-Self Driving (FSD) software in the country.

Additionally, Musk reportedly seeks approval from Chinese officials to transfer data collected by Tesla vehicles in China abroad. This data would be used to train algorithms for Tesla’s autonomous driving technology.

Musk hinted at the possibility of a China FSD launch “very soon” on social media.

Tesla has been storing all data collected by its Chinese fleet in Shanghai since 2021, complying with Chinese regulations that restrict data transfer.
