Odia Jatra’s Comedy King Rabi Satpathy Dies of Cancer

Bhubaneswar: Veteran Odia Jatra artiste Rabi Satpathy (68) passed away on Friday a the age of 68.

Satpathy was suffering from liver cancer. He passed away at his residence at Agapala village under Kujang block in Jagatsinghpur district at 7.40 pm on Friday evening.

For his popular enactment of comic roles he was popularly known as the comedy king of Odia opera.

In June this year Satpathy diagnosed with cancer, sources said.

He was given chemotherapy and other treatment at a hospital in Bhubaneswar but his health condition did not improve, sources said.

Satpathy will be always remembered for his role of Padu Mohanty in the popular Odia play ‘Saguna Basichhi Dena Melei’ in 1990s. It was his debut play.

He had acted in several major opera troupes of Odisha including Sibani Gananatya,  Gouri Gananatya, Dhauli Gananatya, Konark Gananatya, Baghajatin Lokanatya, Indra Mahal, Rangamahal, Surya Mahal, Biswa Ranga Mahal.
