Odisha CM Orders Withdrawal of 48,018 Trivial Cases Against Tribals

Bhubaneswar: In a major development, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday ordered the withdrawal of cases involving trivial offences against people belonging to Scheduled Tribes.

At the instruction of the Chief Minister of Odisha, the Home, Excise and Forest & Environment departments reviewed the petty cases registered against the tribal men and women in the state.

After a detailed examination, these departments decided to withdraw 48,018 cases pending against the tribals. Among these cases, 36,581 cases were under the Excise Department, 9,846 cases under the Housing Department, and 1,591 cases under the Forest & Environment Department. All these cases were withdrawn.

According to the CMO, the withdrawal of these cases will also reduce the pressure on the courts and the judicial system.
