Revenue Assistant Arrested While Taking Bribe in Balangir Dist

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance officials arrested Heblet Barla, a Senior Revenue Assistant -cum-Record Keeper of Muribahal Tahasil in Balangir district on Wednesday while he demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 10,000 as the first instalment of the overall demand of Rs 20,000 from a complainant for issuance of ROR (land patta) in a mutation case.

The complainant wanted ROR for the land that was registered in 2019. But, Barla refused to provide the ROR and demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000. The complainant informed the Odisha Vigilance authority.

The vigilance officials set a trap and nabbed the accused Barla red-handed while he was accepting Rs 10,000 as the first instalment of the bribe from the complainant.

The entire marked bribe money was recovered from the possession of Barla.

Following the successful trap, simultaneous searches are underway at two locations of Barla from the disproportionate assets (DA) angle.

A case under Section 7 Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, has been registered in this connection at the Sambalpur Vigilance police station.
