Orissa High Court Ends Stay on Appointment of 7483 Nurses

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Tuesday lifted the stay on the recruitment process of 7483 nursing officers in the state.

The High Court modified its May 1, 2023 order while hearing a petition of pharmacists seeking preference in the recruitment process as Covid-19 Warriors.

For the recruitment to 7483 District Cadre Group-C posts of Nursing Officers, the Odisha Sub-Ordinate Staff Selection Commission (OSSSC) had invited online applications from eligible candidates. Candidates were to submit online applications from January 27, 2023 and the last date for submission of the application was February 17, 2023.

The recruitment examination was conducted on March 19, 2023.

Hearing a petition of some pharmacists urging preferences as they served on May 1, the Orissa High Court directed the government to continue with the recruitment process but not to announce results.

The aspiring nursing officers had filed a petition before the High Court, seeking a reconsideration of the order. Hearing their plea, the Orissa High Court passed its modified judgment on Tuesday.

According to the modified judgment, no appointment will be made in the vacant posts of pharmacists. With this the impasse on the recruitment of nursing officers has been eradicated.
