Pakistan Poll Body Disqualifies Imran Khan for 5 Yrs Following His Conviction in Graft Case

Jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was disqualified for five years by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) following his conviction in a corruption case.

In a notification issued on Tuesday, the ECP said that the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was disqualified after being found guilty of corrupt practices under Section 167 of the Elections Act, 2017 and his sentencing for three years.

The ECP declared Khan, 70, disqualified under Article 63(1)(h) of the Constitution read with Section 232 of the Elections Act, 2017.

“Therefore, Mr Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi is disqualified for a period of five years and is also de-notified as a returned candidate from constituency NA-45 Kurram-I,” said the notification.
