Pat Cummins Becomes Costliest Player in IPL History, SRH Acquire Aussie Quick For ₹20.5 Cr

Dubai: Sunrisers Hyderabad made history in the IPL auction by securing the services of the 2023 ODI World Cup-winning captain, Pat Cummins, for a record-breaking INR 20.50 crore. This move surpassed the previous record (18.5 Cr) set by Punjab Kings for Sam Curran in the last IPL auction.

Chennai Super Kings initiated the bidding at INR 2 crore, but Mumbai Indians joined the battle, driving the price up to 4.8 crore. After Mumbai withdrew, CSK thought they had secured Cummins but faced competition from Royal Challengers Bangalore. Ultimately, Sunrisers Hyderabad outbid everyone with a remarkable 20.5 crore offer.

Cummins, a proven performer, had previously become the most expensive foreign player in the 2020 IPL auction when Kolkata Knight Riders acquired him for INR 15.50 crore. In 16 IPL matches, he has taken 17 wickets at an economy rate of 8.29 and showcased his batting prowess with a memorable 14-ball 50 for KKR against Mumbai.

Chennai Super Kings also made headlines, spending INR 14 crore on New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell, known for his World Cup heroics. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings secured the services of Harshal Patel for 11.75 crore after a fierce bidding war against Delhi Capitals. Punjab also added Chris Woakes to their roster for INR 4.20 crore and Mumbai Indians acquired South Africa’s Gerald Coetzee for 5 crore.
