Pramila Mallik Resigns as Minister to File Nomination for Odisha Assembly Speaker

Bhubaneswar: Pramila Mallik, the state Revenue and Disaster Management Minister resigned from her post on Thursday. She is all set to become first woman Speaker of the Odisha Assembly.

Pramila represents the Binjharpur assembly constituency. She will file her nomination nomination papers for the post of Odisha Legislative Assembly Speaker.

As there are no doubts regarding her win, she will become the first female Speaker of the Odisha Assembly.

The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has nominated senior leader Pramila Mallik, as its candidate for the position of Speaker in the Odisha Legislative Assembly.

Originally scheduled for September 22, the Odisha Legislative Assembly Speaker election faced a potential boycott by the opposition parties, Congress and BJP, due to the Nuakhai festival. As a result, the election date was rescheduled.

Pramila Mallik, if elected, will make history as the first woman to hold the esteemed position of Speaker in the Odisha Assembly. She brings a wealth of experience to the table, having been elected as a legislator six times from the Binjharpur constituency in Jajpur district. Presently, she serves as the Revenue and Disaster Management minister in Naveen Patnaik’s cabinet, and she has also previously held the role of Chief Whip for the BJD.

Pramila Mallik’s political journey has been marked by consistent success. She has been elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) six times, representing the Binjharpur constituency in Jajpur district. Her political career began in 1990 when she contested on a Janata Dal ticket, followed by victories in 2000, 2004, 2009, 2014, and 2019 as a BJD candidate.
