Scrub Typhus Cases Rise to 206 in Sundargarh, 6 More Cases Detected

Sundargarh: Six more persons tested positive for scrub typhus on Thursday in the Sundargarh district. With it the total number of scrub typhus cases in the district rose to 206.

Out of the 45 samples sent for testing on Wednesday, six were found to be infected by scrub typhus. Till now one person has died of this disease in Sundarharh district. Five scrub typhus deaths have been reported in Bargarh district.

To check the rising trend of scrub typhus infection, the Odisha government’s Directorate of Public Health sent a special team to Bargarh and Sundargarh. A Joint Director and an epidemiologist have also been sent to Bargarh district to investigate the alleged death of five persons because of scrub typhus. Another Joint Director has been sent to Sundargarh as well.

Testing for scrub typhus is being conducted at Rourkela Government Hospital and the Sundargarh District Health Centre. The health department is also deploying ASHA and ANM volunteers to raise awareness about the disease.
