President Droupadi Murmu Will Take Part in “Boita Bandana” at Paradip

Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu will be the chief guest at the ritualistic “Boita Bandana” (boat worship) function at Paradip in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district on November 27.

A Rashtrapati Bhavan release stated that the President will participate in the celebration of the “Boita Bandana” function as the chief guest. She will be present at the function from 10 am to 12.30 pm.

The Paradip Port Authority is organizing this “Boita Bandana” to remember the centuries-old maritime history of Odisha.

Sadhabas (Odia seafaring traders) used to sail to the distant islands of Bali, Java, Sumatra, Borneo (all in Indonesia), and Sri Lanka for trade and cultural expansion. During their departure, the females used to give them a colourful send-off through “Boita Bandana”.

“Boita Bandana” is observed on the day of Kartika Purnima. This day also marks the end of Kartik Vrat and the five-day ‘Panchuka’.
