Radio Legend Ameen Sayani, Voice of “Binaca Geetmala” Passes Away at 91

Mumbai: Ameen Sayani, the radio legend who was the famous voice behind the popular “Binaca Geet Mala” passed away at the age of 91.

Ameen Sayani suffered a heart attack on Tuesday night.  He passed away at around 7:00 pm of heart attack at the HN Reliance hospital.

Ameen Sayani’s introduction ‘Namaskar bhaiyon aur behno, main aapka dost Ameen Sayani bol raha hoon’ on Radio Ceylon is still remembered.

He was born in Mumbai on December 21, 1932.

For generations, he was a household name for his melodious voice and engaging style. He began his career as an English-language broadcaster, and transitioned to Hindi after India’s independence. Through radio program ‘Binaca Geetmala’, he played a key role in popularising radio listening in India.

During his long career of over six decades, he produced and presented over 54,000 radio programs and 19,000 voice-overs for advertisements and jingles. He also appeared in various films in small roles.
