Rohit Sharma Will Captain India In Champions Trophy, WTC Final in 2025: Jay Shah

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah on Sunday confirmed that Rohit Sharma will captain India in the upcoming 2025 ICC Champions Trophy and World Test Championship (WTC) final.

Shah expressed confidence in Rohit’s leadership, citing the team’s recent success as a sign of things to come. He referenced his earlier prediction of India’s T20 World Cup win, stating, “I said in Rajkot that on June 29 we will win hearts, win the Cup, and hoist the flag in Barbados. And our captain hoisted it there.”

The announcement suggests India will maintain a split captaincy strategy in international cricket. While Rohit continues to lead the Test and ODI sides, Hardik Pandya is expected to take charge of the T20I team following Rohit’s retirement from the format.

The 2025 Champions Trophy, set to be held in Pakistan, marks the tournament’s return after an eight-year hiatus. However, BCCI’s approval for India’s participation remains pending, with the possibility of pushing for a hybrid model similar to the last Asia Cup.

Shah dedicated the T20 World Cup victory to outgoing coach Rahul Dravid and retiring players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja. These players are expected to return for the ODI series against Sri Lanka in August, followed by matches against England in February, leading up to the Champions Trophy.
