Schools & AWCs Closed Today in Several Odisha Dists for Possible Heavy Rain

Bhubaneswar: As per the orders of concerned district collectors, schools and Anganwadi centers (AWCs) remained closed for the second consecutive day on Thursday because of incessant rains and waterlogging.

District Collectors of Angul, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Sambalpur, Boudh, Jharsuguda, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh issued notifications for the closure of schools in their areas.

This decision was taken as per the notification of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) on Wednesday that allowed the district collectors to announce school closures if they thought it to be necessary.

On Wednesday, all government and private schools and Anganwadi centers in 12 of the 30 districts of Odisha remained closed due to the heavy rainfall.

As per the prediction of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) western and coastal Odisha may experience heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours.
