Mahanadi’s Floodwater Enters Bhattarika Temple, Deity Shifted, Section 144 in the Area

Bhubaneswar: Floodwater of overflowing Mahanadi river entered the premises of Bhattarika temple in Baramba area of Cuttack district.

According to officials of the state endowment department, floodwater reached the sanctum sanctorum on Wednesday evening.

As per the tradition, the idol of Goddess Bhattarika was immediately shifted to a shelter house on nearby Ratnagiri hill. The Goddess will be worshipped at the shelter house on Thursday. All day-to-day rituals of the Goddess would be performed at the shelter house.

Goddess Bhattaraika will return back to the temple when the floodwater recedes.

The Cuttack district administration advised the devotees not to visit the Bhattarika temple now. To avoid the congregation of the crowd at the flooded temple, the administration has clamped Section 144 in the temple area.

Bhattarika temple is a famous Shakti Peeth in Odisha, is located on the banks of Mahanadi at Sasanga village under Baramba tehsil in Cuttack.
