Scrub Typhus Cases Rise to 183 in Sundargarh, 3 More Cases Detected

Bhubaneswar: Three more Scrub Typhus positive cases were detected in the Sundargarh district during the past 24 hours. With it the total number of Scrub Typhus cases in the district rose to 183 on Monday.

On Sunday, 11 new cases of Scrub Typhus had been detected in the district. Most of the patients were from the Sundargarh Sadar and Balishankara blocks.

Till now one person has died in Sundargarh district because of Scrub Typhus.

On Friday the district medical authorities conducted a sensitization programme for doctors to check the disease.

Scrub Typhus is transmitted through the bites of infected chiggers, which are larval mites. Symptoms include fever and the development of a black inflamed mark on the skin known as an ‘eschar.’

Testing for scrub typhus is being conducted at Rourkela Government Hospital and the Sundargarh district health center. The health department is also deploying ASHA and ANM volunteers to raise awareness about the disease.

Odisha has already seen seven deaths attributed to scrub typhus, with six reported in Bargarh district and one in Sundargarh.
