Senior Congress Leader Chiranjib Biswal Resigns from Party

Bhubaneswar: The Congress party in Odisha faced a major jolt ahead of the coming Assembly and Lok Sabha polls as senior party leader Chiranjib Biswal resigned from the party on Saturday.

The former cricketer and two-time MLA sent his resignation letter to Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Sarat Pattnayak.

As per reports, he is expected to join the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). Chiranjib Biswal is the son of Congress stalwart and former Odisha Deputy Chief Minister late Basant Kumar Biswal. He was first elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly on a Congress ticket from Tirtol in 2004. In 2014, he became the MLA of Jagatsinghpur.

He was the Vice-President of the Odisha Congress and also was a member of the All India Congress Committee.
