SPG Chief in Charge of PM’s Security Dies

New Delhi: The Director of the Special Protection Group (SPG), Arun Kumar Sinha passed away on Wednesday at a private hospital in Haryana’s Gurugram.

He has been heading the SPG since 2016. He was also in charge of the security of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The 61-year-old IPS officer was undergoing treatment for liver-related diseases.

Sinha was a 1987 batch Kerala cadre IPS Officer. He was the Additional Director General of police (Special Service and Traffic) in Kerala before getting appointed as the SPG chief.

Just a day before Sinha’s retirement as the SPG chief on May 30, 2023, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), approved the proposal to extend his tenure by one more year.
