Tamil Nadu MP, Who Consumed Pesticide, Dies in Coimbatore Hospital

Chennai: Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) MP A Ganeshamoorthy, who attempted suicide a few days ago by consuming pesticide, died of cardiac arrest at a Coimbatore hospital on Thursday morning.

The 76-year-old MDMK MP died at a private hospital in Coimbatore at around 5 am.

He was elected on MDMK ticket in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Erode. He was admitted to a hospital , when he developed symptoms of poisoning after allegedly consuming pesticide.

The lawmaker told his family members that he had consumed pesticide.

Hospital authorities handed the body to the police, who took it to the Institute of Road Transport (IRT) Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Ganeshamoorthy had previously won the Lok Sabha polls from Palani in 1998 and Erode in 2009.

He is survived by a son and a daughter.
