Tension Following Assault on Doctor at Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Balangir

Balangir: Tension prevailed at Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital campus in Balangir following the attack on a doctor by relatives of a patient. The attackers alleged that the said doctor was in an inebriated state while on duty and the patient died due to alleged medical negligence.

The relatives of the deceased alleged that the said doctor was heavily drunk and didn’t attend to the patient on Monday night.

The patient who died was Niku Barik of Kandhapalipada in Balangir town, who became seriously ill on Monday and was admitted to hospital in a critical condition. According to reports, he had a liver ailment and was suffering from severe abdominal pain.

Meanwhile, the hospital superintendent Manasi Panda ordered a probe into the allegations by a ten-member team of doctors. According to the superintendent, if the allegations are proven to be true then action would be initiated against the erring doctor.
