Threat Message for Semifinal Match in Mumbai, Security Tightened at Wankhede Stadium

Mumbai: Security was tightened at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday, following a threat for the semifinal cricket match between India and New Zealand from an unidentified individual.

The unidentified miscreant posted the threat message on X, warning of a potential (violent) incident during the ICC World Cup Semifinal match between India and New Zealand. The anonymous post tagged Mumbai Police. It included an image with pictures of a gun, hand grenades, and bullets.

So, the security authorities enhanced vigil in and around the Wankhede stadium.

The semi-final match is a highly anticipated event. While the Kiwis will be aiming to reach the final for third successive time in the World Cup after 2015 and 2019, India will be looking to overcome the knockout jinx that has not let them win a major ICC title since 2013.

India squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ishan Kishan, Prasidh Krishna, and Suryakumar Yadav.

New Zealand squad: Kane Williamson (c), Trent Boult, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Mitch Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, and Will Young.
