Uganda’s cricket team achieved a historic milestone by securing a spot in the T20 World Cup 2024, slated to be held in the West Indies and the United States of America. The team clinched their qualification with a decisive nine-wicket win over Rwanda. A celebratory video capturing the team’s enthusiastic dance and photo session has gone viral on social media.

Uganda’s victory in the Africa Qualifier’s regional final against Rwanda, marked by the latter being bowled out for 65 in 18.5 overs, solidified their top-two finish with five wins in six matches. The team chased down the target in 8.1 overs, losing only one wicket in the process. Joining Namibia, Uganda becomes the second African nation to advance to the T20 World Cup.

Notably, Zimbabwe, considered a favourite in the Africa Qualifier, fell short of securing a berth, currently ranking third in the regional final with six points from three wins in five games.

With the completion of the Africa Qualifier, the 20 participating teams for the main tournament, scheduled from June 4-30 next year, have been determined. The competition format includes group stages, followed by the Super 8 stage, semi-finals, and the final. Uganda’s qualification marks a significant moment as the nation becomes the fifth African team to participate in the T20 World Cup.

The qualified teams for the 2024 T20 World Cup: USA, West Indies, Australia, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Ireland, Scotland, Papua New Guinea, Canada, Nepal, Oman, Namibia and Uganda.
