Parliament in Chaos: 15 MPs Suspended Over Unruly Conduct During Security Breach Protests

New Delhi: 15 MPs were suspended from parliament on Thursday, with 14 from Lok Sabha and one from Rajya Sabha for their “unruly conduct” during protests over a security breach in the Lok Sabha yesterday.

The suspended members include Manickam Tagore, Kanimozhi, PR Natrajan, V K Shrikantam, Beni Bahan, K Subramanyam, SR Pratiban, S Venkateshan, and Mohammed Javed from Lok Sabha, while Derek O’Brien of Trinamool Congress faced suspension in Rajya Sabha.

Of the 15 suspended MPs, nine belong to Congress, two to CPM, two to DMK, and one each to CPI and TMC. The protests disrupted parliamentary proceedings, leading to repeated adjournments. Earlier, during the Winter Session, Lok Sabha passed a resolution suspending five Congress MPs – T N Prathapan, Hibi Eden, Jothimani, Ramya Haridas, and Dean Kuriakose Kuryakus.

Pralhad Joshi, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, moved the resolution. Derek O’Brien’s suspension from Rajya Sabha was prompted by his demand for a discussion on the security lapse that occurred when two individuals disrupted the Lok Sabha session by entering from the visitors’ gallery and releasing yellow smoke from canisters. The Winter Session is scheduled to conclude on December 22.
