Vaishno Devi Yatra Chopper Service, New Track Closed as Katra Gets Record Rainfall

Jammu: The new track to the Vaishno Devi hill shrine was closed for pilgrims because of landslide threat following record rainfall in Katra town in Jammu and Kashmir in the past 43 years.

Chopper service to the Vaishno Devi shrine was also stopped due to bad weather conditions. But the movement of pilgrims to reach the shrine atop Trikuta Hills via the old route continued.

Katra is the base camp for pilgrims visiting the Vaishno Devi hill shrine. This place received 315.4 mm of rain in 24 hours.

It was the heaviest rainfall in Katra since 1980. On July 31, 2019, Katra received 292.4 mm of rain.
