WB Couple Sells Own Baby to Buy iPhone to Shoot Insta-Reels

Kolkata: A couple in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal sold their 8-month-old baby to buy an expensive iPhone to shoot Instagram reels.

The incident came to the fore on Saturday, July 22, when some neighbours of the couple in the Panihati Gandhinagar area found them using a costly iPhone. This coincided with the disappearance of the 8-month-old baby of the accused couple. Neighbours were astonished as the couple was too poor and was struggling to make ends meet.

Suspecting something fishy, the locals alerted the local councillor, who informed the police.

When interrogated by police, the mother confessed that they sold the baby to buy the iPhone and shoot Instagram reels by travelling to different locations in West Bengal.

Police rescued the baby from a woman in the Rahra area in the North 24 Parganas district.

The accused Jaydev and his wife Sathi have two children, a 7-year-old daughter and an 8 month old son. The couple sold the infant to a woman named Priyanka Ghosh of Rahra.

Neighbours alleged that the couple had also tried to sell off their 7-year-old daughter.

According to the local councillor Tarak Guha, police have arrested Jaydev.
