POCSO Court Awards Death Penalty for Rape and Murder of 4-Year-Old in Uttar Pradesh

Meerut: A special POCSO court in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, has handed a death sentence to a 35-year-old man for the heinous rape and murder of a 4-year-old girl. The court termed this crime as ‘rarest of rare,’ recognizing its severe impact on society and human relations.

The incident took place in April in the Jahagirabad area of Bulandshahr, where the accused, Mohd Faheem, lured the innocent child to his house while she was playing outside her home. He then raped and strangled her to death. The girl’s family reported her missing, leading the police to Faheem, who lived in the neighbourhood. Later, the child’s body, bearing multiple bite marks, was tragically found hidden under a bed in Faheem’s residence.

The court, headed by Special Judge Dhruv Rai, has imposed a fine of Rs 1.2 lakh on the accused, which will be paid to the bereaved family. Faheem has been convicted under IPC Section 302 and Section 6 of the POCSO Act, leading to the death penalty, along with a seven-year imprisonment under IPC Section 201 with a penalty of Rs 20,000.

The authorities acted promptly, arresting the accused on the same night of the crime. The subsequent post-mortem report confirmed the brutal rape and murder, securing the case against the perpetrator. Faheem has been in custody since his arrest in April, with multiple hearings in court.
