2 Men Lynched In Meghalaya After Minor Alleges Rape Attempt

Shillong: Two persons were lynched in Meghalaya’s Eastern West Khasi Hills district for allegedly attempting to rape an 18-year-old woman, according to police reports on Saturday.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon in Nongthliew village near the district headquarters of Mairang.

The girl claimed that she was at home when the two men attacked her with a knife and tried to rape her.

Neighbours responded to her screams and apprehended the duo.

Subsequently, around 1,500 people took them to a nearby community hall and thrashed them.

When the police arrived, the crowd prevented them from taking the accused into custody. Despite negotiations with community leaders, the mob forcibly entered the community hall and attacked the suspects.

A police officer stated that the duo could only be removed from the hall after the mob had finished with them.

The two men, who worked as labourers in Nongthliew, were taken to the hospital for treatment but were declared dead upon arrival.

Cops have registered a case, and an investigation is underway.
