Odisha: Police Nab 3-Member Gang Involved in Gold Chain Snatching, Sieze Firearm

Sambalpur: The Kuchinda police busted a three-member looter gang allegedly involved in a recent snatching case in Sambalpur district. SDPO Amitabh Panda disclosed the details in a press briefing held today.

The arrested individuals were identified as Umesh Chandra Sahu alias Mutura (Anuapada, Kendrapara district), Ajit Kumar Kar (Musatikiri, Jajpur district), and their accomplice Sanjit Kumar Patel (Burodihi, Mahulapali police limits, Sambalpur).

According to SDPO Panda, Umesh and Ajit, aided by Sanjit, looted a gold chain from a woman on the evening of March 19 near Kuchinda Town Hall. Acting on a tip-off, a special team led by Kuchinda IIC Dillip Kumar Swain promptly apprehended the accused.

Further investigation revealed the gang’s plan to target a local jewellery shop near the town bus stand. Police also recovered a firearm, three live rounds, a motorcycle, and a mobile phone believed to be used during the crime.

Umesh, a known history-sheeter, reportedly has 26 pending cases against him in various police stations across Odisha. Ajit Kumar Kar is also said to have a criminal record with around 22 cases registered in his name.

The arrested individuals were presented before the court later in the day.
