WhatsApp Banned 71 Lakh Indian Accounts in April, Know Why

In its latest India Monthly Report, the Meta-owned WhatsApp stated that it banned around 71 lakh Indian accounts between April 1, 2024, and April 30, 2024.

These accounts were banned to curb misuse and maintain platform integrity. WhatsApp banned a total of 7,182,000 accounts between April 1 and April 30. Out of them, 1,302,000 accounts were proactively banned before any reports from users to prevent abuse before it occurs. The company uses advanced machine learning and data analytics to identify suspicious behaviour patterns indicative of abuse.

Some of the major reasons for banning WhatsApp accounts:

*Violation of Terms of Service: This includes accounts that engage in spam, scams, misinformation, and harmful content.

*Legal Violations: Any activity from accounts that breaches local laws results in an immediate ban.

*User Reports: WhatsApp takes action based on reports from users who encounter abusive or inappropriate behaviour.
