YouTube Lowers Monetization Requirements, Opening Doors for Small Creators

Bhubaneswar: YouTube has made significant changes to its monetization policies, providing more opportunities for smaller creators. The minimum subscriber count required to join the YouTube Partner Program and monetize content has been reduced from 1000 to 500. Additionally, the watch hour criteria has been lowered from 4,000 to 3,000, and the requirement for Shorts views has been reduced from 10 million to 3 million. These updates will initially apply to the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Taiwan, and South Korea.

While smaller creators will have increased opportunities to monetize their content, they will still need to grow their audience and meet specific benchmarks to earn ad revenue. The existing requirements for revenue sharing remain unchanged, but creators who have already qualified for the YouTube Partner Program will not need to reapply.

YouTube has been actively promoting revenue generation through its ad revenue-sharing program, including a program specifically for Shorts. This move aims to incentivize creators and enhance the platform’s short-form content offerings.

Similarly, TikTok has also made efforts to support creator monetization through its Series paywall feature, available to creators with over 10,000 followers and additional requirements for those with 1,000 followers.

These updates from YouTube and other platforms reflect a positive shift towards supporting smaller creators and diversifying monetization options, enabling them to generate income and sustain their creative endeavours.
