60-Yr-Old Lady Kills 15-Month-Old Granddaughter Alleging Illicit Affair by Daughter-in-Law

Chennai: An elderly woman of 60 years killed her 15-month-old granddaughter in Tamil Nadu’s Ariyalur district due to suspicion that the child was born from an illicit affair by her daughter-in-law.

The accused identified as Viruthambal has been arrested. According to police sources, she has confessed to the crime during interrogation.

The woman’s son, Raja, works abroad. His wife Sandhya gave birth to her second child, a baby girl, Krithika.

Viruthambal accused that the child was born out of an illicit affair of Sandhya. On Friday, Sandhya had left her two children at home to buy something from a nearby shop. After returning home, Sandhya found Krithika unconscious.

The child was taken to a hospital where she was declared brought dead.

Based on Sandhya’s complaint, the Tamil Nadu Police took her mother-in-law Viruthambal into custody. During interrogation, she confessed to having killed the girl. She force-fed sand to the 15-month-old child, resulting in her death, police said.
