70-Yr-Old Tamil Nadu Priest Arrested for Sexually Assaulting Girl in Temple

Chennai: A 70-year-old priest, Thilagar was arrested by the police in Tamil Nadu’s Theni district after a girl accused the priest of sexually assaulting her.

Villagers gathered outside a temple demanding strong action against the priest.

The arrested priest was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.

According to the allegations, the priest lured some children playing outside the temple to come inside by offering them sweets. He then allegedly sexually assaulted a girl in the group.

After the girl reported the incident, her parents, relatives, and other villagers gathered outside the temple. Fearing an attack, the accused locked himself inside the temple.

As the tension grew in the area, the police arrived and took Thilagar into custody.

Based on the complaint filed by the child’s parents, a case has been registered against the priest under the Pocso Act.
