Agniveer Involved in Armed Robbery of Rs 50 Lakh Jewellery, Cash Arrested in Bhopal

Bhopal: An Agniveer from the Indian Army was among seven persons arrested in connection with an armed robbery of jewellery and cash worth over Rs 50 lakh from a jewellery shop in Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh by holding the shop employees at gunpoint. The arrested persons included two women.

According to police sources, the accused Agniveer Mohit Singh Baghel, posted in Punjab’s Pathankot and was on leave and had come to Bhopal to meet his brother-in-law.

Baghel planned the robbery to pay off his brother-in-law’s house loan and enjoy rest of the loot.

Baghel and his friend Akash Rai robbed the jewellery shop on August 13 wearing helmets. In the CCTV footage, Baghel was seen threatening the shop employee with a pistol.

Four police teams scanned the CCTVs and Baghel was identified from the footage. A reward of Rs 50,000 announced for information led to his arrest.

Police have sought Baghel’s details from the Indian Army for verification.

Apart from Baghel and Rai, the others arrested in connection with the robbery included Vikas Rai (brother of Akash Rai), Monika Rai (Akash Rai’s sister), Amit Rai (Akash Rai’s brother-in-law), Gayatri Rai (Akash Rai’s mother) and Abhay Mishra (Akash Rai’s friend).
