Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Police have seized cannabis worth Rs 49 crore and arrested as many as 529 suspected drug traffickers in the past three months.

According to reports, during the January-March quarter in 2024, Odisha police impounded 49,400 kgs of ganja, which is one of the highest in the first quarter for any calendar year.

The real amount of seizures and arrests would be higher as it does not include the recovery and arrest made by the Odisha Excise Department.

During these three months, Odisha police have registered 425 cases of ganja seizure and arrested 529 traffickers, including inter-state traffickers from Maharashtra, Kerala, West Bengal, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

The marijuana smuggled from different parts of Odisha is smuggled to southern and northern parts of the country through a network of middlemen. The contraband is smuggled either by road or rail.
