Constable Arrested for Conning Female Cop of Rs 3.5 Lakh in Koraput Dist

Jeypore: A 35-year-old constable of India Reserve Battalion (IRBn), Durga Prasad Panda was arrested in Jeypore of Odisha’s Koraput district on charges of duping a female cop of Rs 3.5 lakh by giving a false promise of arranging excise sub-inspector job for the victim’s brother.

According to police sources, In 2021 Panda had promised to arrange an excise sub-inspector job for the brother of district police constable Reena Pathak, for which he had demanded Rs 7 lakh from Pathak.

As the first instalment, Pathak had allegedly given Rs 3.5 lakh to Panda with the promise to pay the rest amount after the selection of her brother for the post excise sub-inspector. When Pathak realized that Panda had cheated him she asked for her money to be returned back. But Panda did not return the money. So, the female constable filed a complaint in this regard with Jeypore Town police.

An investigation led to the arrest of Panda under Section 420 of the IPC.
