Woman Uses AI to Mimic Male Voice to Dupe Female Neighbour of Rs 6.6 Lakh

Mumbai: A woman named Rashmi Kar from Kashimira in Maharashtra’s Thane district was arrested by the police for allegedly duping her female neighbour of more than Rs 6 lakh by making calls to her posing as a man, whose voice she mimicked using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The accused cheated her female neighbour and threatened her into paying Rs 6.6 lakh in installments by posing as a man. The victim paid the money through digital platforms.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that she used the AI technology to change the voice during calls.

Kar was boked under the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.
