Gang Rape Key Accused Nabbed after 4 Years in Kendrapara

Kendrapara: The prime accused in a gang rape case was arrested by police after almost four years of the occurrence of the crime in Kendrapara district.

The arrested accused is Maheswar Sahu of Kalaspur village under Nikirai police limits.

He was arrested on Sunday, while he was in his village to attend the funeral rites of his deceased mother. He was sent to Barimula jail as his bail plea was rejected by the court.

It is alleged that because of a property dispute with the husband of the victim, Maheswar and his accomplishes had kidnapped the woman and raped her on June 28, 2019.

In relation to this case, an FIR was lodged with police in which seven persons including Maheswar and his wife were alleged to have committed the crime.

Police had managed to arrest five persons. But Maheswar and his wife absconded. Meanwhile, a court has acquitted four persons in this gang rape case and sentenced one accused to jail.
