Man Dismissed from Army Cons Woman of Rs 1.25 Lakh in Ganjam Dist

Berhampur: A man named Santosh Kumar Sethi (34), who was dismissed from the Army, was arrested by Berhampur police in Odisha’s Ganjam district for allegedly conning a woman of Rs 1.25 lakh through a false promise of providing a job.

According to Berhampur police, the accused is a resident of Nandighar in Dharakote block. He was arrested in two cheating cases in 2023, following which he was dismissed from the Army.

After coming out of jail on bail, he again resorted to cheating and built up relations with the woman citing his defence background. He took Rs 1.25 lakh from the woman with the promise to arrange a clerk’s job for her at the Army Air Defence College, Gopalpur.

The woman never got the promised job and the conman did not return the money to her. Having no other way out, the woman filed a complaint at the Gopalpur police station.

Investigation of the case led to the arrest of Sethy. An investigation is on as police suspect that the accused may be involved in more such cheating cases.
