Newborn Granddaughter Sold for Rs 30,000 by a Couple, Arrested by Kolkata Police

Kolkata: A couple was arrested by the Kolkata Police for allegedly selling their 23-days-old newborn granddaughter for Rs 30,000. Police have also arrested the two traffickers and the woman who bought the baby.

The sold-off newborn was rescued from Narendrapur in South 24 Parganas district. The grandparents of the child were arrested from Gaya in Bihar, where they were hiding after selling her.

When police investigated the complaint lodged at the Anandapur police station on Wednesday by a woman, stating that her daughter was missing, it was revealed that the grandparents of the newborn sold her for Rs 30,000 to two child traffickers.

The child traffickers later sold the newborn to a childless woman in Narendrapur for lakhs of rupees. Police have also arrested the two traffickers and the woman who bought the baby.
