Teacher Shot Dead by UP Head Constable Following Altercation

Lucknow: A teacher was shot dead by a police head constable following an altercation in the Civil Lines area of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday night.

The deceased, identified as Dharmendra Kumar, was a member of an education department team from Varanasi that had brought Uttar Pradesh Board examination copies to the local SD Inter college in Muzaffarnagar.

The team included another teacher and two class four employees and it was being provided security cover by a police team from Varanasi.

The two teams from the education department and Varanasi police were waiting in a vehicle for the college gate to open when the incident took place on Sunday night.

For some reason, Kumar and the head constable Chander Prakash had an altercation while they were in the vehicle. All of a sudden, Prakash shot at Kumar using his service weapon.

The injured teacher was rushed to the Muzaffarnagar district hospital where he was declared dead.

A case has been registered against the head constable. All others present in the vehicle have been taken into custody for interrogation.
