‘Ghost Faculty’ Scam at Tamil Nadu University; 211 Persons Fill Up 2000 Faculty Posts

Chennai: A “ghost faculty” scam has been unearthed at Anna University of Tamil Nadu.

This scam involves fraudulent registration of faculty members. It has been found that only 211 individuals are being used to for 2,000 full-time faculty positions, reported India Today.

It has been found that each of these 211 individuals is listed as faculty members simultaneously at multiple colleges.

According to the India Today report, Anna University Vice Chancellor Dr R Velraj, the number of ghost faculties registered in affiliated colleges has risen from 191 in 2023 to 211 this year. The issue first surfaced when the anti-corruption NGO Arappor Iyakkam scrutinised the faculty member data available on the university’s website.

The NGO’s analysis revealed that some were listed as faculty with as many as 11 institutions at once.

The NGO has filed a complaint with the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), seeking urgent intervention into the alleged scam.
