This Country’s PM to Fire 70000 Govt Employees, Know Details

Argentine President Javier Milei has decided to sack around 70,000 government employees in the next few months. Through this move, he wants to slash the swollen state expenditure.

Milei on Tuesday said that he’s frozen public works, cut off some funding to provincial governments and terminated more than 200,000 social welfare plans, as part of his strategy to reach a fiscal balance at any cost this year.

The employees to be affected by the decision of the Argentina PM are a small fraction of Argentina’s 3.5 million public sector workers.

Milei’s job cuts are expected to face opposition from the country’s powerful labour unions. One union representing some government workers went on strike Tuesday.

The state workers union ATE has announced a national strike without providing further details.
