Delhi HC Prohibits Use of Amitabh Bachchan’s Name, Image & Voice Without His Consent

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court issued an interim injunction on Friday prohibiting the use of Bollywood veteran Amitabh Bachchan’s image, voice, name, or any other identifying traits without his consent.

The order comes after Bachchan had moved the Delhi High Court seeking protection over his personality rights.

The court reiterated that Bachchan (the plaintiff) is a well-known personality and the defendants are abusing his celebrity profile to market their own products and services without the plaintiff’s knowledge or consent.

The court also stated that if the order is not made, Bachchan is likely to suffer severe loss, both socially and financially, and that some of the acts may potentially bring him into disrepute.

For those unaware, Personality Rights, often known as the Right of Publicity, allow an individual to limit how their name, likeness, or other identifying characteristics, are used for commercial purposes.
